@CraigyD Thanks, however I do not want to ignore it. I am setting the defaultvalue on the serverside (suitelet) but I also want to allow the user to be able to edit the field and if they clear the value then they should not be able to submit the form. But it seems like when you set a default value on the server side using

field.defaultValue

you can no longer enforce mandatory on a field
