Please let me know if I can have a custom script to trigger the validation.
b
you need to be asking Thomson Reuter that question
the sane diy option is to write a script to use an address validation api to do the validation yourself
the insane one is to reverse engineer how theirs works to figure out how to trigger it

Thanks @battk for the details.
Is there any alternate for this? I am not sure if this is possible but wanted to check with you guys that if I create a customer saved search to pull in the address changes and trigger a scheduled WF or a script to trigger the validate address for all those customers.
Also, one more thing. The customer and address information is coming from Salesforce via an integration. Is there a way to validate the address during the integration process?

your questions are all variations of asking Thomson Reuter
or being insane and trying to figure out how their solution works

Looks like this address validation works differently than Avalara.
It seems like a common problem for many companies. I am curious to know how others are handling this.

We used to use Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE, but opted not to use their address verification and went with Precisely (formerly Pitney Bowes) instead as they had better international support and documentation on doing bulk address validations, which we do multiple times per month. We’ve since switched to Avalara, but kept Precisely because it works well and the mass updates work for over 99% of customers, leaving us with just a few each time to validate manually. However, yes, definitely worth asking Thomson Reuters first, since it’s their service. They may or may not have a supported way to mass validate addresses.
Prior to all of that, we did the slightly insane approach of using SmartyStreets - which required us to create a saved search of addresses to export, run them through the multi-line validation in SmartyStreets, then re-import the validated CSV back into NetSuite. I do not recommend doing that, though it is one of the cheapest solutions if you don’t have an existing vendor for address validation.
if the addresses are coming form Salesforce, the best solution would be to validate them in Salesforce first, so that both systems have the validated and correct address. That’s what i’d be looking into

Thank you so much @scottvonduhn. Can you please provide inputs on validating the address in Salesforce? Can we install a bundle in SFDC that validates the address over there? Is that free, or do we need to buy a license for it? Can we have Onesource installed in both NS and SFDC? Or would it be sufficient if it is installed only in SFDC?

So, the first thing is that I don’t have any knowledge of what options are available to validate addresses directly in salesforce, only that it would be beneficial for the initiating system to validate them first, before sending them out to another system via integration. Also, OneSource may have a salesforce app, or they may not, and if they do I don’t know what additional costs may be involved. You’ll likely need to contact your Thompson Reuters reps, as I don’t recall there being much in the way of developer documentation around how their solutions worked.

Thank you for the details. I will contact them. Thanks again 🙏
