When configuring Google Tag Manager in Suite Commerce Advanced, do you also need to configure Google Analytics 4? Or Does enabling Google Analytics as service with the Google Tag Manager Editor take care of that?
s
You do not need to do GA4 setup in NetSuite if you’re doing it through GTM
If you do, you will get duplicate data
b
Ok, I am trying to find out what the issue is then, as I have not received any data. Setup was done ~5 days ago.
s
I can’t tell you. I would go through the setup steps again and make sure that you have followed each one correctly (eg linking your accounts)
b
I will double check. This site was previously configured under SCA Vinson and working, and is now SCA 2022.1 so something must have broken along the way.
s
OK, there’s also been a patch for the GTM data layer for that version of SCA: https://docs.oracle.com/en/cloud/saas/netsuite/ns-online-help/article_1151545068.html
I would get the latest version of SCA and do a diff of the data layer to your current version
And maybe the Google Tag Manager modules
b
ok great, I will check that

make sure your GTM is configured to send data to GA4 as well. You can use the preview mode in GTM to view what data layer stuff SCA is sending in real time as well, so you can determine where the problem is.
b
@Fourth Wave Consulting how to I verify that? I did a preview session with GTM and confirmed tags are working, but GA4 shows no activity under the Realtime monitor.
f
If the GTM preview is showing activity in the data layer, it sounds like you might not have set up GTM to send data to GA4... you need variables, triggers, and tags. GTM just receives data from SCA, from there you need to tell it what data you want sent to other systems. If you just want basic data sent to GA4 like visits and conversions (not more complex stuff like add to cart, item views, etc) then I'd just plug in your GA4 account ID in the SCA config and see what comes through. GTM has a steep learning curve and it's only worth it if you're using it to pass out data to multiple tracking systems (bing, adwords, fb, etc) and have someone who can manage the technical aspects.

I used the container generator tool to create the tags. I did go in and verify the GA4 ID is correct in the configuration and the GTM tags. https://developers.suitecommerce.com/google-tag-manager.html
slight correction, that tool was used for the site when it was on SCA Vinson.
@Fourth Wave Consulting thank you. I do have tags configured but I checked and none of them have triggers, I modified the GA4 configuration tag to trigger on page initialization and now I am receiving data. I guess I assumed the triggers would be configured by default when using the tool, or Tag Editor SuiteApp.
