Use SDK to pull the XML object and add to the xml then deploy the object back. I have used this method to update locked items before.

Why are you trying to do this? People usually lock objects for a reason

I have experienced objects that we created through sdf that was not meant to be locked be locked. I can imagine there might be a case where something created by somebody that doesn't have the capacity to update their own software for all clients being updated by somebody else.

TBH you really shouldn't be modifying an object thats locked by someone else. Objects have to be explicitly locked and installed with installation preferences. There can be downstream effects you don't realize
Honestly I hide and lock all my source code because I'm afraid of people doing things like this ^^^
