they are decently rare i'd say for netsuite but in other applications like nodejs apps you use them all the time as its non-blocking meaning it doesn't wait.. so if you call a method that goes out and fetches data, it doesn't just wait for that to come back it continues on executing. So you have callbacks or promises to handle it when it returns
