Hi - we are trying to add "Item" to our manual journal entries so we can see revenue by item on manually created JE"s. I feel like this is a pretty common ask but our team is finding it challenging to add. Any suggestions on how can we accomplish this?

Sounds like you need to be using a transaction instead

Report>Revenue>Revenue by Item (out of the box)

That sounds very strange. Keep it to the transactions that items are intended to is my advice. Reports will not pick up that

that means you guys are booking your sales using a JE? Which is quite uncommon, natively this not available in JE. A journal is a record of transactions listed as they occur that shows the specific accounts affected by the transaction. Used in a double-entry accounting system, journal entries require both a debit and a credit to complete each entry.

it's just when we book a 1 off JE

in that case use a custom line level field to record the item just as reference- note this will not reflect in rev by item. Not a best practice though - my 0.5 cents worth 🙂

Adding an "item" is not native field on a JE. I agree to adjust the transaction OR credit and rebill with a reference to the original transaction
