Hi all, is it possible to import a JE with just the account number ?

I dont think this is possible. Either use internal IDs

or setup your COA with external ID = Account number and you are good to go

It is possible even without setting it as external ID. It is an exception to the general rule.

Although it is still a good idea to use account number as external ID for ither transaction types

Definitely possible. They added that functionality several releases ago. It was one of those quality of life things they slip into releases, but that don't appear in the release notes.
