I thought this job sounded interesting (not that I could apply for it from the UK), but this section blew me away. Did I understand this correctly? If you live in an area where the index is lower, you'll get paid less??? Say what now? 😮 If it's a remote role no matter where you live you're still doing the same work, right? Does that also mean if you choose to move home your pay is subject to change? Bizarre.

Well even though I don't like it as an individual. And will pass it up. From a company's point of view it is not outrageous. They do need to do cost cutting. Even Google and other big giant did this as well. Also a reason why service base MNCs from developing countries thrive as they provide cheaper labour. As an individual you want growth relative to the cost of living increasing year on year. Can't the company have little variation to save the cost because of the same ? Plus 15% or less should be alright. If a person1 earns X amount living in region 1. And supposedly person2 earns Y amount living in region 2. Then person2 demands the same salary as person1 and supposedly it's given. Person1 will not progress at the same rate as the other one in his life due to his high cost of living. Eventually asking for a higher salary. Then when will this stop? They pay should be based on skills for sure, but a 5-15% variation in pay scale should be ok.

Its a red flag to me and instantly makes me pass.. Pay by the VALUE you bring to the table not where you sleep.

It is not a sr. dev salary btw I asked them.
I had a google interview for a netsuite job and they told me the salary was $385k/yr then came back and said they'd have to let me know based on location and I passed.
