If you are building a BI tool, and you call the cards that you put in the dashboards "views", would it make sense to you to call a collection of these views a "monitor"? So a developer in your team would build "Sales Orders Monitor" for example that have many views, one shows the total number of sales orders, one shows the top customers and how many SO belongs to each one, etc. The developer shares this monitor with you, and you add to your dashboard the view you want. There is also Monitor Store where you can get pre-built monitors. I just fear that people may be confused between dashboards and monitors.... I mean, this is a dashboard, but it is called monitor in hospitals. Am I overthinking this?

I would refrain from inventing terminology. Download the free version of powerbi & use whatever naming they do.

It's a dashboard. In my mind the term 'monitor' applies more to closely watching a changing time series for heatlh problems
in your hospital case, it's monitoring health indicators for humans, in a computer system, it can be monitoring health metrics for the machines, service availability, errors, etc.
The items you describe showing sound like classic dashboard display, not a monitor.

@CD This site will be structured a little bit differently.
@Shawn Talbert In the store for example, you can find "monitors" that help you track your CRM, the payment gateway you are using, your github repos, etc. And developers will be able to upload their own monitors. I just can't find a better name. If you called it cards for example... would a statement like "Add these Github cards to your dashboard" feel ok? I am not a native English speaker... but for some reason it feels strange to me... I can't be sure.

Maybe "widget" instead of "card" would be better and add a "widget" to your "dashboard" and have dashboards of widgets.

I am not sure, I guess in users' minds it is used for weather and news and stuff like that in OS. Will see what my teammates think about it. Thanks
Naming things is very hard 🥲
n
That's actually very true as context, locale and culture amongst other things can change the meaning of words, certainly in English. 🙂

I ended up doing this. What do you think?
n
Yeah, that looks good and makes sense to me, good job man.
