Why is my saved search not allowing me to perform inline edits? I have an item saved search and the inline editing toggle is turned to TRUE, but the pencil icon does not show up on any column header, so I can't do inline editing. Why?
t
This happened to me. Make sure you set the type to Inventory Item/ etc
d
@Tim Chapman In my criteria, I already set Type = Inventory Item. Is there anything else I can do to fix this?
t
Can I see your criteria?
d
@Tim Chapman
t
Play around with making inactive false
d
I used this saved search to do inline editing like a year ago and it worked without issues.
t
I'm not 100 percent sure how I fixed this. Also, is the field you are looking to edit one that can be in line edited?
d
I am trying to mark certain items inactive via inline editing
t
I see

Specifically, I'm trying to mark parent items inactive while keeping their child items active. The easiest way I've found to do this is to gather all of the parent items into a saved search and mark them inactive via inline editing. If you know a better way to inactivate parent items without also inactivating the child items, please let me know.
t
Can you customize your view of lists ->Accounting -> Items
To sort parent items.
and you can inline edit in there as well.
Also, if you know which internal ID's you want to make inactive, you can do a quick CSV import.
d
@Tim Chapman I just tried the csv import method, and it marked the child items inactive even though my csv import only included the parent item. So that will not work
And I've already customized my view of Lists > Accounting > Items and it doesn't allow me to inline edit there either
n
When marking parent items inactive from my understanding it will make all children inactive as well, unless you remove the parent from the child item.
d
@Noel B What do you mean when you say "remove the parent from the child item"? How do you remove a parent from the child?
n
On the item record there is a field called "Subitem of" (field id: parent) that you select what item is the parent. If you remove that selection it will no longer have a parent.
Looks like this on our instance.
