A request for my fellow NetSuite professionals... We just implemented NetSuite on 8/1 and today I did a training for a bunch of my staff. It was embarassing having to explain to them the problems with downloading to Excel (e.g., NetSuite saving an XML file as an XLS file and Excel popping up the warning message). I know that this has been a problem for a decade, but out of frustration I figured I would find the "enhancement" request and vote for it. It only had 545 votes! Can we all PLEASE vote for SuiteIdeas request 188904?

You could download as CSV and bypass the error message?

Of course you can, but that is a workaround (like adding the registry fix to ignore the error). This is clearly a bug (that NetSuite incorrectly categorizes as an enhancement request) and IMHO, they need to step up to the plate and just fix it.

I'm impressed that you went live with NetSuite on 8/1 and this is even on your radar. KUDOS

This is kind of their trademark for “excel”-files. Has been this way since it’s inception, I wouldn’t bet anything that they will change this.

Yes, agree, they could have fixed this if they wanted to ages ago - the reality is that you are not downloading an excel-file per say, so the warning is both correct and accurate since they are forcing it to open in excel by 'faulty' suffix. My guess is they would need to pay quite a bit for a plugin to generate a 'real' excel file or there could be security concerns.

@david_r I know I'm late to the party on this one, but you might want to take a look at a chrome extension called NetSuite Better Export. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/netsuite-better-export/dbgmdhljlomlbiapjfikffgdmdmpjgdk#:~:text=NetSuite%20Better%20Export%20allows%20users,Saved%20Search%20results%20in%20Excel. It converts saved search (not ad hoc search or netsuite report) exports into .xlsx files.

That looks quite nice but I think a lot of companies have a zero-tolerance for chrome-plugins (and for good reasons)
