is it possible to set up a single tax group for an entire state and have only that group apply to the state, without listing every single city/zip code for the state on it?

if you are talking about on the transaction, you should be able to add "Tax Item" on the customer record and that will take care of this issue

Thanks, I think I solved this with the "Home tax code" option - having it at the customer level didn't make sense because customers have multiple ship-to addresses

we're getting going with US tax soon, do you have any resources that give an introduction to setting it up?

Basic taxes are easy to setup, if you want do manual update twice a year. Just do SuiteAnswer, you can do it yourself or Admin can if you are not the admin

If you want automation then Avalara or SuiteTax might be the way but it’s pricey

Vertex is another 3rd party offering some of my clients use - but yes, basic tax setup is pretty simple
