Beginner's question: Is there a search or report to show all entries posted, YTD to a single GL line?

sounds like you want the account register

you can just go to your chart of accounts and click on the account in question and it will pull up the register, from there you should be able to filter by a date range

Any idea what permission is needed to a see summaries in chart of accounts?

I would guess Account detail under reports
