have you ever managed capitalization of internal R&D projects (intangible FA) with fixed asset module as requested by GAAP / IFRS ? Do you have specific implementation patterns to suggest or advice we should consider? Is the FA module able to manage this case with any kind of workaround? We don't have the PM feature enabled.

In general, what I've seen done is a GL account is set up for a particular project - and then the asset gets consolidated (not the right term, but same idea)
I think it's a "compound asset" is the right term for it.

Ok, it makes sense. What I was looking for is a pecific management like Netsuite did for leasing.
k
leasing has special accounting requirements that are different from other fixed assets

Like R&D project have.. You have direct costs you should book following specific component rule and the final cost determination fot hte Fixed Asset item..

Seems to me the compound asset concept accomplishes that. That said, I'm not a CPA

I think too for the required GL impact
And so it should be the perfect solution with small workflow for cost approval on it. Thx so much

Hi Andrea, I suggest NOT using compound asset for your CIP account (that’s what you are trying to do, correct?). The implications are the compound/component assets must be the same type/segment as the main asset. Usually with CIP processes you want to add labor and material, right there there are two different asset types (and it is a good idea to keep them as such). you can connect them though through parent/child relationships (sub-asset tab).
Also, compound assets do not update value upon adding new assets to them; that is an enhancement
