Is there a way to do a saved search for accounts that are at the last level of the hierarchy? Or vice-versa (not at the last level)? I think using the Subaccount of field would only isolate the very top level parent accounts.

You could add an other record field to your accounts, and populate it with desired data points. Then build your searches to reference those
