Does anyone calculate sales tax based on the ship to in the header for destination states? We are trying to implement Avalara, and they will only calculate tax at the line level. We can’t be the only company who uses the header location, so hoping to see if there are workarounds.

I'm not sure I track - Avalara wants to caclulate tax at the line level, but it should still be based on the destination supplied at the header...
The line level calculations are based on the item's taxability at the destination.

We have a warehouse location on the line level, so Avalara is pulling that location in. But our warehouses cover multiple states, so the tax calcs are wrong.

Hold on let me pull up an account using avalara..

Sorry, for origination states, it’s pulling in the line level address of our warehouse. We want it to use our store location on the line, but it’s a custom field. Destination states use the shipping address.

Oh I see. That's a bit more technical than I am with Avalara.

No worries - appreciate you looking into it :)

as a follow up - our basic need for origination states is to know if Avalara can use a header-level field to calculate the tax. our native, line-level location field will not work for origination calculation, as we ship/fulfill product out of a different state than where the sales order is booked.

The only account I ever had Avalara in was header level taxes. It sure why you guys are having an issue
