Does anyone know if there is a way/work around in NetSuite to write a check that debits and credits the same account?
j
@Katelyn Martin What exactly would be the objective in doing that?
k
working to enter opening balance and outstanding checks. was hoping to be able to do that in a quick way to enter the checks with net zero impact rather than go through generating transactions, etc.

So you have a whole bunch of checks that vendors/employees have not cashed yet, that you need to keep track of?
k
my client does, correct

You can do this with journal entries, but I don't advise it.
NS has a defect with JEs and account recs and clearing in different periods
best practice is to import checks to a holding account
and then reverse with a JE in that holding account.
Oddly - NS won't recognize that "hey my JE could clear over multiple periods - but it treats it as fully cleared in the first period and now all my math is wrong" as a defect. Even after like 5 calls. So I've just adjusted my process and what I advise clients to do.
It used to work until about 10 months ago. Then they hotfixed something and broke it.
I'm a little salty. It was nice being able to do all your opening balance stuff in one JE.

thanks @KevinJ of Kansas, I'll give that a go!
