Hey all, question on
Enable Tax Lookup on Sales Transactions
. We needed to add PA as a nexus so I’ve done that, imported the state codes in NetSuite, and added PA to the Taxable schedule. But the tax group corresponding to a PA customer’s shipping address will not set on a new Sales Order. It will only do so if I set the right Tax Item on the customer record, but that shouldn’t be needed. MA for us sets correctly without being on a MA customer’s record as the Tax Item. And for the PA customer, if on the new SO page, I select Custom for Ship To, and enter a valid MA address, after saving the correct MA tax is added on the accounting tab. If I do the same with a valid PA address using a custom address, nada. I’ve worked with tax config a bit without much issue before, and think I’ve set things up correctly, but perhaps there’s a minor tweak needed, seems like it could be something small. Anyone with any insight on this?
The customer is taxable. The order is taxable. Looks like the same config for PA as MA, or CA as well which seems to work.

double check that the zip code for your address has a tax code match...its rare but that could be a cause
also what does the sales order default to when you try to enable this? I know you have a hard coded tax item but if you remove that which tax code is used?
t
The zip is present - one PA customer’s maps to two groups, but another maps to a single group and also doesn’t work (thought maybe the presence in two could cause an issue, but doesn’t work for single mapped zips too)
We don’t have a
Home Tax Code
setup for PA, but don’t for others like CA, which don’t seem to be a problem.
-Not Taxable-
is our Default Tax Code, but think that’s pretty common and would be used if someone is marked
Taxable = F
or no zip mapping found, right?
Son of a gun. “Make sure that the nexus is on the Nexus tab of the Subsidiary record. Navigate to Setup > Company > Subsidiary > Nexus”
c
that was going to be my question...
you can have lots of Nexus in the overall account but not every company will utilize it..no nexus no tax
t
It was a good question, that’s resolved it. Docs spell out doing some things that it does for you like a Vendor for the tax agency. Doesn’t do that (which makes sense since it shouldn’t assume which OW subsidiary), and I didn’t either.

You have taken your first step into a larger world. when you venture into SuiteTax in a few years be ready

I’ve done a bit with taxes, and a bit with OW, but yeah. That’s what I’ve heard re: SuiteTax. Sounds like it’ll be fun. Thanks for replying!
