Should we move from Slack to Discord? A few month...

Should we move from Slack to Discord? A few months ago we created a poll on NetSuiteProfessionals.com site asking Should we move from Slack to Discord? The results to that poll were overwhelming in support of moving, however there weren't enough responses to fully gauge the entire communities preference. I'm posting a followup poll here, to make sure we give everyone an opportunity to vote via Slack and the site. Please vote below by clicking the emoji that represents your preference. To view the benefits Discord would offer see original post: https://netsuiteprofessionals.com/poll/should-we-move-from-slack-to-discord/ 1. S I prefer Slack but would move to Discord. 2. D I prefer Discord. 3. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I have no preference and would use either. 4. β›” I will only use Slack (would not move to Discord) **Please vote only once, voting for multiple options will cancel your vote out.

Starting a thread here in case there are any questions or comments

This is primarily due to having access to full history, right? And slack costing too much to have that feature?
k
correct, more benefits linked in the original post though.

A lot of companies and things I use are moving to Discord, so we kind of had to do it recently, now I just run both concurrently all day
n
Threads in Discord aren't nearly as good
a
Until discord fixes it's issue of over 4 years where you can't become invisible per server I don't like the idea of using Discord for business related things.
l
yeah discord is not greeat for busines
z
Very different results so far than the netsuiteprofessionals poll.
c
I can’t figure out Discord so my vote would be to stay with Slack
j
there is a way to sync messages between discord and slack!!!

Poll seems decisive.
l
yup…
n
so are we going or not?
@creece have you voted? @battk?
@Shawn Talbert?
c
Discord is going to be bought by Microsoft, so if you enjoyed Skype, wait for them to trash Discord!

Yup, like Microsoft f****** Windows 11
a
Technically we're leaving out the people who would only use discord and therefore are not here to vote in the poll.

Is there a different discord that already exists that someone made because they don't want to use slack?
d
I think I accidentally voted twice. Is there a way to back it out?
s
@Dawn just click the icon again
c
Downvote for discord!
That junk shouldn't have been promoted beyond gamers talking about each other's Moms
a
Sometimes I would like to make fun of people's mom's here too.
m
Honestly fine with either. The history would be very nice but I understand people sometimes don't have access to discord, or really hate slack.

Personally I think discord is far far better than slack as a general chat app but I just don't like how they handle accounts where you can't make yourself invisible per server you're in. It's been a requested feature for many years. Their roles, bot integrations, voice channels, and chat channels are just superior to slack though in almost every way.

j
we could integrate the two and give people the option using matterbridge in a docker container
it is an integration that syncs messages between platforms. I could help set this up
d
S, but I have also never used discord. I also think I just revealed my age πŸ˜‚

I vote that we shutdown this Slack and begin fully adopting the official Oracle message boards

Perhaps, this is a good opportunity to ditch closed platforms and embrace StackOverflow or something similar? Either way, the solution should include a perpetual history of threads and public indexing of results via Google.
d
I do like this idea. I am sure many of us are already familiar with StackOverflow. I think there is also enough material here to fill a new site dedicated to NetSuite. Hopefully Oracle/NetSuite wouldn't object.
s
Does stackoverflow have real time chat capability now?
d
I think so, but here is a reputation requirement.
