@cory I would love to know that as well. COGS in general is a mystery I am trying to unravel, and it would be great to have a reference that specifies things like: what transactions are used to calculate average COGS on the item record? Where

The Average Cost of an Item is a weighted average of all the inventory at a locaiton at the time any positive effecting inventory transaction is posted So for example if you have 10 @ $1.00 and then you post an Item Receipt for 10 more @ $2,00 then you will have Qty 20 on hand @ $1.50 However, if you have 1 on had @ $1.00 and your receive 10 in @ $2,00 Then the result will be 11 on hand @$1.91 The postive effecting transactions can be an Item Receipt, or Inventory Adjustment The COGS for orders is calculated by the Location Average Cost of the Item on the day of shipment The average cost on the header of the item record is the average of all the locaiton average costs
Also if you change a past receipt or back date a receipt/adjustment it will recalculate current fulfillments

very cool, thank you! I'm just watching this video: https://netsuite.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/100412/kw/inventory%20costing It appears that there are some enhancements that just come out for Inventory costing in 2021.2
Now I just need to try and figure out where the costing data is stored so I can query it in SuiteConnect, ha ha

The thing that has helped me most is the inventory valuation detail report. It can be executed per item, location, date and transaction type that can tell you the sequence of transactions for the average cost calculation.

cool
I'll have to play around with that one, thanks!
I'm discovering that we have a lot of -negative inventory for our Amazon FBA
and that is part of why it was so confusing
looks like the accounting team and the supply chain team need to work better together ha ha

Oh Man. the -ve inventory can cause further headache. At point when you receive the inventory later, you can see COGS transactions unexpectedly. Pls see note related to System Cost of Goods Sold Adjustments ID 28147
