@Craig A few people have mentioned that the performance for a formula criteria with a large IN list of values is much faster than a standard criteria using Any and a list of values, so maybe that is a good solution? There may be a size limit to the formulas, but you should be able to chain a few together with OR and parentheses to accomplish it if necessary.
