Is there something I need to do to enable inline editing on a sublist that is sourced from a saved search?

I believe inline editing is only supported for main line fields.

They are both custom records actuall. Custom record A has a lookup to custom record B. Custom record C has a lookup to custom record A. On the form for B, I am showing a sublist of record type C with a saved search that looks up through A. That works, but I can’t for the life of me make it inline-editable.
