I have a staff that is unable to edit an approved journal entry - they have both Make Journal Entries and Journal Approval roles as "full." Does anyone know what else I could be missing?

Any workflows?

Yes - this prevents editing?
I see - it was locking the record unless admin. Fixed as I'd prefer to use period close to "lock" financials. Thank you!

As a general thought process - having folks edit JEs after they are approved does create issues potentially
I.e. Entry person enters JE. Approver approves. Entry person edits JE without telling approver. Now financials are modified
Also - Enter JE that hits cash. JE approved. JE reconciled as part of bank account. Someone later edits the JE - it then unapplies it from the reconciliation. Also - Enter JE that hits AR JE approved and applied to transaction. Someone edits JE - it comes unapplied from transaction.

I usually solve for this with a button on the locked, approved JE to ‘unlock’ which then allows the user to edit and then on save kicks it back into approval flow. For one client I took the extra step of restricting unlock button to the user that APPROVED it, so you have to ask permission to change an approved JE, and then they also know WHY they’re getting it back.

That is my usual approach as well - with an added notification that if it hits any of the common problem account types that it could cause issus.

Just few days ago I have created similar workflow for JE where approved JE needs approval from approver to unlock it - added a non removable user note to record reasoning behind unlocking an approved posting. This is comply with SOX control
