Does anyone know, is it possible to open up a prior period and keep everyone out except a few users?

Not possible ish. You could mark all the roles inactive for the duration, but that's completely locking them out

Should be noted that just because a period is no longer  closed doesn't mean that AR AP and etc unlock, so if you leave all that locked only users with the override period restrictions permissions should be able to post to locked periods.

However system generated things and admins can post into those periods

I like the possibility of opening the period, keeping AR,AP locked and having a user role with override permissions.  Can you tell me where or how I set this up.  Thank you.
