If I have a large retail customer with multiple locations (ex. Target), is the best way to set the individual locations up by using parent/child, parent being corporate and children being the individual locations?
s
Are you managing the inventory at these locations? Why do they need to be locations at all?
b
We are not managing inventory at locations, but the individual locations would be purchasing products from us. We need the additional locations in order to track sales order history, contact information and for shipping purposes.
e
To answer your Q, yes they should be set up as Parent Child Target Inc. - Parent Target Inc - NYC - Child Target Inc - Boston - Child etc
c
in this instance i typically just setup 1 customer but numerous ship to addresses and select the shipping address according to each order you are entering. Parent/child is applicable here but i usually use parent/child when the same customer has different locations that may require different payment or shipping terms. Make it easier to manage those default values at that point.

Thanks everyone! @Corey Smith, that is going to be my next question to the team. If there are not different terms, I think it's easier to leave as multiple addresses under one customer. I saw that there are some limitations with parent/child relationships.
