I think this article might answer my question, but is there any way to bypass the inventory detail field on a credit memo? As per the article, using a, "*Other Charge for Sale"* as the only item(s) on the CM will do what you want to achieve. The Invoice will not impact any inventory.

Yeah that's what we're trying to avoid. We want to track the cost on the item that isn't a Other Charge. Worth a shot though, thanks!

I think if you issue a return authorization first, but uncheck the restock box, it doesn't make you return the inventory
