I know you can upload files along with transactions (to use as evidence), but has anyone any experience of using a link to the file (say on sharepoint for example) to save filling up the filing cabinet? We could have 20'000 documents a month. Thanks in advance for any advice.

BigBox and other storage platforms are used quite often for this.
It really depends on the platform you go with as to your options

We are currently using eXtendFiles which has a One Drive / Sharepoint option.

@BullgillRunner - would be happy to connect and discuss eXtendFiles capabilities if you're interested. The volume you mentioned would not be an issue at all, and there are some advanced capabilities to pull data out of the files and put them on the NetSuite record directly to automate some processing steps. Let us know if we can answer any questions regarding file management and migration, it's kind of our thing :)

Thanks all for the replies. I've been looking further into our requirement and watched the eXtendFiles intro video, and I don't think it will do quite what I'm looking for. For example I could have a cheque transaction with any number of lines on it (up to 100, perhaps more) and each line requires to have a link to a document that will be stored on SharePoint.
