Anyone have any idea why some users are unable to "Type then Tab" in some list fields, but not others using the same role? Preferences are the same also

I've had it happen to me randomly. Like when I'm creating a saved search and I want to have results grouped, sometimes I press tab to the summary type, press G, but nothing happens. I have to select the group option from the drop down instead. But it usually only happens once and on the next line it works fine. I've always chalked it up to a javascript issue.
