How can you set up inventory items to track quantities of items in a warehouse, but the inventory items are not actually owned, it is owned by a client. Do not want the inventory values on the balance sheet, but have to be able to track quantities in each location

Consignment inventory freaking sucks - very hard to do in NS
Sandii's Zero dollar item receipts is how I've managed this in the past - the challenge is when you have consigned items of the same type as another item in your warehouse.
and getting COGS correct on that... had to use seperate SKUs
or seperate locations to dileneate Consignment

And all that doesnt really address the physical issues for warehouse workers; they have to be clearly separated (in the warehoue and during inventory), cant be easily moved around if they are not in the same sub/location in NS. It really isn't something that I have seen a great solution for.

Well, if you can use Lot numbers for it - it really helps
or serial. But how you tell it which serials are Consigned vs Not... good luck.
Where as Lot Numbering - it's not so bad.
since you can apply the same lot to more than 1 item.
(assuming the item isn't already lot numbered)
