Can you transition free-form text to long text without data loss?

Yes I have done this without data loss. But I converted to Text Area instead of long text

i believe now NS will warn you if you're going to lose data when changing the data type of a custom field to something else - in some cases like from one kind of text data to another, it won't even pop up the warning (but it will if you convert from text to date etc)
