As for age, though, ODBC came out in the 90's, just a few years before the first version of JavaScript. Restful web services and JSON were proposed right around 2000-2001, so in overall age, ODBC is really not that much older than JSON-based Restful web services. SQL, which SuiteQL is based on, is over 45 years old and people still love that, too.
