does anyone have any good resources on dashboards/kpis? senior accountant wants some more informative dashboards, wondering what you guys prefer, thanks!

A good informative dashboard could include a mixture of different kinds of portlets, like Reminders, KPIs, KPI Scorecard, KPI Meter, Trend Graphs, Shortcuts, Report Snapshots, Custom Portlets and Custom Search Portlets. You can be creative with what portlets are being used and whatnot, you really just need to determine what information the user would want to see, and decide how you want to present that information. I'm currently working on creating locked down published dashboards for all roles in the company I work at, and all dashboards have a good combination of portlets. SA 8168 includes a list of portlets that you can add, along with links for more information about them. As far as KPIs go, I think the KPI Scorecard is a great way to see and compare data over different periods of time. Could be used for financial figures, number of cases opened/closed, etc.
