Does Sandbox environment send email notifications for approval? or workflow triggers?

email notification im not sure, but you could check in the customer's communication tab.

yes and they usually come directly to you unless the other person is a sandbox user as well

This would've been like, a group of people. It should've sent email to multiple approvers.

I am also listed as one of the approvers

but I do not seem to get emails

Specific the email to ask me to review and approve. I do get an email if my item has been approved.

Login as the admin in sandbox, go to setup > company > Email Preferences > Email Options tab. There you would see that you can actually setup who should be receiving emails. For me, I have set it up as the logged user, you can either redirect all emails to a fixed user or disable them entirely here
