Can I find average days between transactions in a search?

Does anybody know why I get an unexpected error when I try to perform a summary on this formula?
```to_date({custcol4},'MM/DD/YYYY') - to_date(Lag({custcol4}, 1) OVER(partition by{item} ORDER BY {custcol4} ASC),'MM/DD/YYYY')```

this gets me the results i'm looking for to find the days between orders, but now i would like to average it grouped by item and i keep getting unexpected error
