anyone know....if we start using AVATAX, can we run the Sales tax Liability report and still get data. We are primarily cash based for reports
k
Why wouldn't you run the reports out of avalara?
o
apparently avalara does work well with reports for cash based netsuite accounts
unless im misguided
k
I see.
o
and the problem with the reports in netsuite is all tax items just say Avatax as opposed to which city/state the tax applied to
c
@Ogabeg We use AVATAX and ran all of our sales tax liability reports through Avalara. We never had any issues with the reports.
k
only problem is that if you are cash basis - Avalara will have no idea when you got paid
o
@Chloë - even if we use cash based
@KevinJ of Kansas - right, so thats a major issue
c
Doesnt the Sales Tax Liability report hinge on postings based on the tax code? if everything is a single code wont all states post to the single account? This is the fundamental frustration with Avalara NS integration
c
When I did AP for the company I currently work at before being NetSuite Admin, whenever I ran the reports from Avalara to file and pay our sales taxes, it reported by state. Also by the individual location codes if you had to report by each city and whatnot. We are multi-state and I never had issues with their reports for sales taxes.
c
Yeah Avalara console reports by state but in NS they use a simple single tax code and all postings go there.
o
yeah in netsuite everything shows up as Avatax code. @Chloë - was your company cash based. cash basis reporting?
c
No, we are accrual, so I'm not really sure how Avalara works with cash based accounting. I would imagine there is a way to handle it somehow, but not 100% sure.
o
im about to meet with them so ill update you all
c
I would suspect Avalara will have a gap here
o
yep just met, and they do
cant do cash basis reporting
k
well, any bend on doing cash basis reporting for filing state taxes?
with the whole wayfair vs sodak - I'd be inclined to have a tax solution in place that isn't standard NS.
And I imagine all of them will have this same limitation
o
they said they do not have report for cash basis reporting and that nearly all of there clients are accrual
i am reaching out to the other vendors to see if they do
